I had a wonderful stay at a charming hostel with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The manager took the time to learn my name and gave me great recommendations for things to do in town. The location was perfect, close to everything I needed. The room was clean and comfortable, and I even had a private bathroom. While the building may have been a bit worn out, the new owners are making improvements and I have high expectations for their progress. I had a great experience and would recommend this hostel for its cozy vibe and friendly staff.

We got great value for our money, the room was beautifully decorated and the bed was warm and comfortable. The location was fantastic, with easy access to the Monteith's brewery and train station. The staff treated us like old friends and had great recommendations for places to eat and sights to see.
The breakfast offerings could be improved with a wider variety of options.

During our 4 week trip in New Zealand we stayed in many different hostels, but the Duke Hostel was definitely the best of them. Sosh, the owner of the hostel was absolutely friendly and courteous. We really enjoyed our stay there. Während unserer 4-wöchigen Neuseeland Reise waren wir in vielen verschiedenen Hostels, das Duke Hostel war aber eindeutig das beste. We were warmly welcomed with beautifully decorated rooms and cozy beds. The lounge allowed us to relax after check-out, and the location was convenient for exploring the area. Renovations were ongoing but did not affect our stay.

Manager was the nicest I have met in my trip. Helped with activities reservations, and gave tips on visits. Old building, but very colourful. Bar on the ground floor, but no noise upstairs. Was upgraded to a bigger room, with a very comfy large bed and a sink. Free soup every night.
One little thing : wifi only worked in the common room but not upstairs.

I recently had a wonderful stay at a hotel in the center of a charming coastal town in New Zealand. The location was superb, allowing me easy access to all the attractions and amenities of the area. The staff at this hotel were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to ensure that I had a pleasant experience during my stay. They were always ready to assist and provided excellent customer service. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with attention to detail evident throughout. I particularly appreciated the well-maintained shared bathrooms, which always had an ample supply of hot water for showers. Additionally, the communal kitchen was tidy, well-equipped, and had everything I needed to prepare meals. The value for money at this hotel was exceptional, with breakfast included in the price. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this beautiful town.
All was great, no complaints whatsoever.

We stayed at The Duke for a week and had a fantastic experience. The manager gave us a warm welcome and provided us with great recommendations for things to do in the city. The room was impeccably clean and we loved having our own private bathroom. The hotel had a fun and vibrant atmosphere, with lots of young people around. The staff were incredibly helpful, the facility was quiet and clean, and the spacious bedroom had a comfortable bed with high-quality sheets. The free wi-fi signal was strong and there was convenient parking available outside. a top-notch stay!
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great value for money and perfect location right in the heart of everything. The friendly staff at check-in was a bonus. Loved the complementary breakfast and speedy Wi-Fi. The colourful decor gave the room a cozy and romantic vibe that we adored. Plus the comfortable bed made for a wonderful night's sleep.
The bathroom was a bit outdated and the shower pressure was weak. the noise from other guests in neighbouring rooms was noticeable at times, but not enough to ruin the overall experience.
